Childhood myopia and screen use

Childhood myopia has increased significantly in recent years. Various studies link this increase to the greater use of digital devices such as tablets, mobile phones and computers.

When children spend many hours looking at screens at close range, their eyes are constantly straining to focus, which can contribute to the progression of myopia.

Furthermore, spending less time outdoors has also been linked to a higher risk of developing myopia.

To reduce this risk, it is recommended to limit screen time, encourage outdoor activities and have regular eye tests to detect any changes in vision. These tests should be carried out annually from the age of 3 or 4, or at any time there is a suspicion of a possible eye problem or difficulties adapting at school.
