Key Rules for Visual Hygiene
- 20-20-20 Rule: To prevent eye strain, every 20 minutes of close work, rest for 20 seconds by looking at something more than 6 metres away.
- Lighting: Use ambient light and a direct work light (flexible lamp) that does not dazzle. If you are right-handed, the light should come from the left; if you are left-handed, from the right.
- Distance and Posture: Maintain a working distance equal to the length of your elbow to the first phalanx of your middle finger, approximately 40 cm. Sit with your back straight, feet flat on the floor.
- Screens and TV:
- Computer: The screen should be at eye level or slightly below (15°), at a minimum distance of 45 cm.
- TV/Mobile phones: Avoid screens with the light off, as excessive contrast tires the eye.
- Blinking: Force yourself to blink to avoid dry eyes.
- Environment: Avoid environments with very strong heating or air conditioning and keep the room ventilated.
- Outdoor time: Outdoor activities help relax the accommodation and reduce the risk of myopia progression.
