Blepharitis is inflammation or an infection of the eyelids. It can happen occasionally or be a chronic condition and can affect both children and adults. It is a benign condition that may lead to irritating symptoms, such as reddening, dry eyes, itchiness or stinging.

Treatment entails good hygiene and the use of artificial tears, and it may be necessary to prescribe anti-inflammatory medication or antibiotics.
