Digital eye strain: an increasingly common problem

The intensive use of screens on computers, tablets and mobile phones has led to a significant increase in what is known as digital eye strain.

Many people spend several hours a day looking at screens, which forces the eyes to make a constant effort to focus. This situation can cause various symptoms associated with eye strain.

The most common symptoms include dry or irritated eyes, blurred vision after prolonged periods in front of screens, headaches and a feeling of eye strain.

One of the factors contributing to this problem is reduced blinking when looking at screens, which can lead to dry eyes.

To reduce digital eye strain, a few simple measures are recommended, such as following the 20-20-20 rule. This involves taking 20-second breaks every 20 minutes and looking at a point 6 metres (20 feet) away, adjusting the lighting and screen brightness correctly, maintaining an appropriate distance from the monitor, and having regular eye tests.

With the increasing use of digital devices at work and in leisure time, looking after your eye health has become a priority to prevent discomfort and maintain eye wellbeing.
